Since Croatia declared its independence in 1991 and the subsequent end to hostilities in 1995, it has made significant moves towards a market economy. This dynamic move in economic development has created growing interest in Croatia as a long term trading partner.
To explore the many opportunities generated by this economic growth and development, a forum for business was required. The concept of a 'Chamber of Commerce' would assist in the development of a meaningful trade relationship between Western Australia and Croatia, resulting in expanded employment opportunities for both economies.
Both the Western Australian and Croatian governments supported the creation of a Chamber in order to promote a positive economic relationship between Western Australia and the Republic of Croatia.
The Western Australian Croatian Chamber of Commerce was formed on April 3, 2003. A Steering Committee was established to coordinate and guide the formation of a properly constituted body with a clear vision and well defined objectives.
The members of the Steering Committee included: Hon. Ljiljanna Ravlich MLC (Chairperson), Tihomir Telisman (Consul Gerant of the Republic of Croatia), George Grasa, Tony Krsticevic, Mira Skender, Neven Smoje and Dennis Yagmich.
